They are controlled by a combined controller present on one card. I want to know if I can remove this controller, and replace it with a separate diskette and hard disk conroller. I want to use high density diskettes, and convert my hard disk to the RLL format. This requires replacing the controllers, but I would like to know if it will work before I waste my money. I received no documentation. I tried replacing a floppy drive in my XT with this without changing any switches on the card; there is a bank of four, and all were in the ON position. I received a 'Warning - Drive Not Ready' message upon booting. Can anyone out there tell me what the switch settings should be, both on the controller and on the motherboard? I have a true blue XT, and I will have one floppy and one hard drive once this is installed. I'd appreciate any guidance I could get on this installation. Interestingly enough, the User Guide that came with "DTK" DOS and the User Guide that came with our Acer 915P computers (MS-DOS 3.30(R)) are EXACTLY the same. HOWEVER, the "DTK" DOS does NOT support the DRIVPARM command (even though it's listed in the manual!). The resulting error message is "Unrecognized command in CONFIG.SYS. The "Acer" DOS does support the DRIVPARM command!! My question is this: Does anyone know of BUGS in DTK supplied MS-DOS?? Can someone explain in detail the difference between MS-DOS 3.30 and 3.30(R)?? Vielen Danke! I'm currently using a 386 based PC with 4Mb on-board and running MS-DOS 4.0.I'm given to understand that DOS 4.0 is the first version of DOS to explicitly make use of EMS for it's own purposes. For example, there is an option in config.sys to specify loading of buffers in EMS memory. I am currently using QEMM 5.1 as a memory manager on my system. Among other features, this software allows extended memory to be accessed as EMS. When I boot up DOS 4, I find that as much as 512kb of EMS gets used up, presumably by DOS. What I want to know is, exactly what *does* DOS 4 do with all that memory. It certainly hasn't decreased the amount of conventional memory that it normally uses. I have not specified that DOS place it's file buffers in EMS. Alan Liu Institute of Systems Science National University of Singapore [Are you sure you don't have a RAM disk defined? As LOGOites know LOGO.COM has problems to run on EGA and VGA and on 386 machines. On the Compuserve LOGOFORUM I found some hints on how to adapt LOGO.COM to work on these machines. The bug fix works, if somebody needs it I am willing to send out a program which applies the bug fixes to LOGO.COM. There is, however, a remaining problem. Printscreen does not work in graphics mode. I know, LOGO does some strange things in graphics mode. With GRAPHICS.COM installed garbage is printed (probably Printscreen simply dumps a wrong video page). When I use VGAPRTSCR.COM (from SIMTEL) Printscreen simply does not do anything after LOGO switches into graphics mode. Can anybody offer some advice? Barring that, can someone tell me how to get Windows 3.0 to approximate a normal screen color when the SLT is in reverse video mode? Reverse video is much easier on (my) eyes when using normal DOS applications, but Windows comes up in a negative image when the screen is reversed. I've tried playing around with the custom colors but can't come close. Any help is appreciated. I currently have the 30MB drive, and I have the external 5 1/4 floppy. I also do not want to spend the money for IBM's 60MB drive (the one they put in the Mod 70, last I heard streeting for $1000+). Replacement of my current drive is not necessary, though is an option. I would consider adding another drive (I would like at least 30MB more), a hard card, or replacement. I neat option, if doable, is to put a 5 1/4 HD in the 5 1/4 floppy box. I don't use the floppy all _that_ much, and I would consider such a novel solution if anyone knows how to make it work. I have good basic mechanical skills, but know little about the specifics of working under _this_ hood. Please respond to Info-IBM and to me directly at Bitnet: GAYLORD@VTVM1 Thanks. Clark K.
