FidoNet is fully coupled into the Internet. You do not need to know any specific gateways, just address the message correctly into the fidonet.org domain, and everything will be routed automatically. FidoNet addresses can be addressed in the basic format of: FirstName.LastName@pww.fzz.nxx.zyy.fidonet.org ww= Point Number (this is usually not needed unless specific to a subsystem) zz= FidoNet Node xx= FidoNet Network or Region yy= FidoNet Zone (Presently only 1 to 5 are valid) Therefore, as an example, my name David Dodell, resides at FidoNet address 1:114/15. My FidoNet Internet address is: David.Dodell@f15.n114.z1.fidonet.org Now, how do you go from a fidonet node to a internet style address? Just as easy, however, you need to find a gateway on fidonet first, since there is no automatic routing to internet gateways at this time. For example, you could use my gateway at 1:114/15 and send a message to the user "uucp" at 1:114/15. In the first line of the text, you put the internet style address, followed by 2 returns, i.e. The addressing is in the form: To: user@site.domain For example, to send to my bitnet account of ATW1H @ ASUACAD, the fidonet message would go to "uucp" at fidonet address 1:114/15. The first line of text in the body of the message would be: To: atw1h@asuacad.bitnet Or to my uucp address: postmaster@stjhmc.uucp To: postmaster@stjhmc.uucp If you have any furthur questions, please feel free to write. Thank you for your interest. I've poked through about a dozen likely subdirectories at wuarchive.wustl.edu (which maintains a mirror of the software archive at simtel20) to no avail, and I don't have much more time to go hunting. Does someone out there know a location where I could find something that fits the description, or who could mail me a copy? Many thanks in advance, Hai Pham. I have a KXP 1624 (the 24 pin wide-carriage) and am not sure how to download fonts into it. Is there a quick and dirty way to do this? (i.e. Basic program, or text files with escape characters and data copied to PRN.) I also have a font program for VGA. I was wondering if there is a way to load these fonts into my printer either directly or indirectly. Example of Directly: use a program to load a VGA .FNT file to the printer. Indirectly: load the font program into video memory, then load the font (from video memory to printer memory?) Thanks. Chuck R. bitnet: 346b36g@cmuvm.bitnet Mt. Using a breakout box, I was able to cross-connect the RD and TD lines. The problem is, when I try to write to the printer via the command "copy [file] com2:", I get an error message and an Abort, Retry, Fail? prompt. The error message is something like "General failure on INT 24" or that general idea. The strange thing is that when I connect to the COM2: port directly using a terminal emulator program, I can type on the keyboard, and the lines of text will get printed after I hit the Enter key. Can someone tell me if the DOS 4.01 serial port drivers expect fancy handshaking, say via the RTS and CTS lines? I have no trouble using COM2: for regular telecommunications purposes, so the hardware seems to be working properly. Any ideas? But I have had no success with ZIP files. I would appreciate any suggestions. I used the Mac to FTP files from Simtel, and then used Apple file exchange to write MS-DOS disks. When I tried to read them using ZIP, I was informed that there were CRC errors. I tried using PKZIPFIX, but the resulting files would also not read. Thanks for your help, - Marshall D.
