Unfortunately, I didn't find a PC-version either (perhaps one should write one - any volunteers? =B-)), _but_: If you have an AT (at least a 286-CPU is needed), than you can use Randy Spurlocks Apple][-emulator (available at SIMTEL: <MSDOS.EMULATORS>APL2EM.ZIP) and emulate the game: works just fine! (Note: on a 25-MHZ-386, the speed of the emulator is almost that of the original Apple][). BTW: Randy's emulator is PD and he told me he'll bring up a new enhanced version (supporting a serial interface and stuff like that) soon, so watch out (but the existing one is running great, anyway). That were factory formatted but acted strange when I tried to format them low density (720k). I was then not able to re-format them on the high or low density drives. Several of you suggested that I use a bulk cassette tape eraser. The guys in our audio-visual dept were a bit hesitant, but did it anyway and the disks now work fine. I too own the machine. I finally gave it to my son to take to college and I went out a bought a 386 clone. Prices for even 486 machines are now falling below $3,000. Why upgrade a dud. Give the Model 50 to a beginner, or set it aside to play games, or give it to your grandparents so they can write letters more easily. Oh yes, and buy yourself a clone sold by a company interested in supporting real users of real applications. Harry M. At slower rates (10 kHz) you can both view the data and store it to disk. After storage you can view the data, tag it, plot it, etc. The address of Axon Instruments is: 1101 Chess Drive Foster City, Calif. 94404 Tel. 415-571-9400 Fax. 415-571-9500 2) Using the RC Electronics A/D converter and the old version of their software it is possible to sample and store 100 ksps to ram (256 k max samples) and 30 ksps to a hard disk. They have newer software which may well allow higher sampling rates and may support a ram disk. The A/D converter board can sample at 1 million samples per second (12 bits) using a partial "flash" converter design. This board has its own memory which is buffered such that conversion can continue while one half of the buffer is being transferred to a hard disk or ram disk. Very few A/D converter boards running on a PC are as fast as this board. The address of RC Electronics is: 5386-D Hollister Ave. Santa Barbara, Calif. 93111 Tel. 805-964-6708 3) Using A/D converter boards which support DMA (i.e., Labmaster, Data Translation) Asyst software will support 125 ksps to a ram disk and 30 ksps to a hard disk. Asyst directly supports a number of A/D converter boards. If your particular board is not supported, it is possible with Asyst to write custom routines. Obviously the board should support DMA or some buffered memory scheme to achieve high throughput rates. Of course if you are going to write your own routines anyway, why purchase Asyst unless you plan to use its analysis features. VIEWDAC, a new product from Asyst (available early 1991), which is for 386/486 machines, claims to support boards running at 20 msps! I have no expereince with this product. I use hardware from AXON Instruments and have colleagues who use their software, although not specifically Axotape. From my experience I can highly recommend these companies. I have no connection with them other than as a satisfied user. The first is to use GWM in its MWM emulation mode. I've tried it but it doesn't co-exist well with OpenWindows(tm) (i.e. XView) client. The second is a file called mwm.c which is suposed to do the job. I only ran once and all it did was NOTHING!! A bit of tinkering with the source may help though. There is no equivalent of these on the PC. There is a package called PC-Rexx, but I don't recommend it, since it is quite crippled. I understand that the Rexx interpreter that comes with OS/2 1.3 is quite good, but again, it is not a compiler. You may be better off writing in BASIC (Rexx seems closest to BASIC on the PC) and compiling it on the PC, or running it interpreted under OS/2. -turgut ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Feb 91 08:37 EST From: <JFL4%PSUVM@uga.cc.uga.edu> Subject: Arranging Program Group Icons in Win 3.0 I know this is a trivial question, but the situation gets to be aggravating. Can anyone tell me how to arrange the Group Program Icons in Windows 3.0 and have them *stay that way!* I've tried the "save on exit" approach and they still end up at the bottom of the screen on the next start-up, obscuring each other's titles. As a matter of fact, I've tried a lot of things, and nothing works. This is something that happens with "normal" floppy drives, but NOT with a harddisk !! I get this message with all programs I use, so it has nothing to do with one particular program.
