Our institute has a vax center with a decnet backbone. They are installing pcsa in most offices and labs. I have a lab with some pcs and macs and an os/9 computer which can use tcp/ip. My wants are; 1) file transfer between our macs, pcs, os/9 system, unix machines, and vax. 2) print services from all pcs to one postscript laser. 3) print services from all macs to one NTX (which we already have) QUESTION: Can this be done from pcsa 3.0? I understand that won't communicate with the tcp/ip and unix machines. Correct? Is there public domain/low cost tcp/ip -ftp -telnet software for pcs as there is with other systems? The hardware is 16bit 3COM cards on AT compatibles. All responces welcome. -- Dave Duling. Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, NIEHS. Monitor and mains frequency; no this should not cause any problem; most modern monitors (all modern monitors?) use a 'switched-mode' power supply, where the AC line current is rectified to produce DC, then stepped down via a power-oscillator. I have run PCs off portable-generator systems which are notoriously unstable as regards frequency (the output frequency depends on engine speed which of course varies significantly with the power being drawn from the generator...) without any noticeable problems. I have also run a PC off a 12-volt auto battery via an 'inverter' circuit which operated at 100Hz rather than the usual Eurpoean 50Hz; this worked perfectly too! ...-.- Pete Lucas PJML@UK.AC.NWL.IA G6WBJ@GB7SDN.GBR.EU ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Feb 91 9:11:33 MET From: wolf@grasp2.univ-lyon1.fr (Christophe Wolfhugel) Subject: Request for special version of KA9Q I'm searching a compiled version of KA9Q that implements just the gateway functionnality. I actually use a complete set of the nos, but I get horrible round trip time between the two networks, slowing down the ftp's to less than 2 Kb/second and giving really a bad impression in telnet. Has anyone modified the KA9Q package to get a fast router? If yes, I would be really interested in that modification. Suddenly it decided to conk out on me. Very strange business. Have tested my controller with another drive and all is well. With the miniscribe my system comes up with controller failure after a long delay. Now, I've heard that Minsicribe is out of business and Maxtor owns them, I also know they are manufacturing this model now under their own name. My drive is still within the warranty period. I was wondering if someone had a number for Maxtor and if they are honouring miniscribes warranties.
