It will let you do things like edit batch files, and even type long messages for upload. You can even print them with this program. The first version on SIMTEL20 was version 2.30. I downloaded it, and it worked just fine. When version 2.45 was uploaded, I downloaded it. There seems to be a couple of bugs, which I contacted the author, Dale Chun, about. Unfortunately, he has been unable to duplicate the problem I've run into. The problem: when I run the program, it runs just fine. I can key in text, print it out, and even use the new feature of counting number of words in the file. But, when I try and exit by keying in a CTRL D, or even a CTRL Q, the program locks up. CTRL S will save the text file, but I still can't get out of the program without rebooting. I have a PC/AT clone, with a RAM disk and a few TSR's running. Thinking that might be the problem, I booted up from a floppy. Still had the problem. I tried using version 2.45 of the program on a Zenith Z-248 (another PC/AT clone) at work, and have the same problem. I even had an e-mail friend in Alaska try the program. He runs into the same problems that I do. If anyone else cares to take a shot at downloading and experimenting with it, I'd appreciate further confirmation that I'm not merely going mad [;+)]. Thanx, Frank P.S. I think the program may be written in C. Source code isn't included. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 May 91 17:46:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Mario Castelou Goertzel <mg2p+@andrew.cmu.edu> Subject: English/Hebrew word processors I have a friend who needs to write a dissertation in both Hebrew and English. What's wrong? Hi all. Let me describe my problem as clearly as I can After working on the computer for exactly thirty minutes, the screen shows a blank square and freeze. In VAX, the display goes even crazier:(I set prompt to VAX-->) after the blank showed up, the prompt becomes VA> or VAX-> or X>; after a while, the computer hang up. I suspect it is because of overburn of the monitor. So i changed a new one to test, -- without luck. Then i formatted the hard disk, and the computer still hang up after 30 minutes. I had the same problem with another three machines in our computer room now. ( Those machines are networked) Could that be a virus attack? ( I played couple unregistered games on the machines) If so, how can i correct it? Any suggestion will be appreactiated. I recently read an article where someone had mentioned the simibm.idx file in the <msdos.filedocs> directory. I have ftp'd that file and then I ftp'd the simcvt.c file and compiled it. etc. I now have the simibm.lst file and I am able to grep (actually 'find') through it. My question is, Do other directories have this file also? I know it would not be called SIMIBM.IDX, what would it be called though? I am afraid I have got a virus. But SCAN77 does not identify it.. What happened to me is that the system syddenly reboots when I am working. I noticed this when I was drawing a plan in AUTOCAD. When I displayed the object with hidden lines removed, the computer started rebooting.. Later I noticed that there were 3 hidden files created in the ACAD directory . Those files are some parts of MTE directory.. The file names were different and hidden and not the complete file but a small part of a file about 6k. This rebooting continued even when I was in Norton commander.. I turned the system off and on again.. There were no problem at the beginning. But after 30 minutes( or so) It started rebooting as if the reset button was pressed. And the same files were again created (I erased those file before positively). So I thought that something wrong from the MTE and I erased the whole MTE Directory.. ( No BBS calls yesterday) I also changed the AUTOCAD directory by erasing it and installing it again from a fresh DIFFERENT AUTOCAD software. Now I did not have that rebooting problem up to now. But the three hidden files are still created in ACAD directory with some contents from MTE software. Note that I do not have MTE in my Hard disk NOW. How are those files created? Did anyone have an experience like this before? I thought that this is a VIRUS. But SCAN77 says NO. Can anyone give a suggestion what to do... Thanks in Advance....
