I am considering some changes to our Unix-based distributed operating system kernel. One possibility is to consider a more open approach. I would like to get more details on two of the "well-known" approaches -- namely Sun's NFS and Apollo's new(er) system for workload distribution. The data I have is all old or superficial. Can anyone (e.g., developers concerned) point me to the appropriate data? What I really want is documentation on how the systems work in general (detailed), and enough (third party) developer's documentation that I can make a reasonable decision on the utility of the systems for our purposes and development effort in getting there. Either the documentation, pointers to it, or data on how to order it would be appreciated. Thanks.
