                   (Unofficial) Call For Papers

12th ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles

                       December 3-6, 1989
                           The Wigwam
                    Litchfield Park, Arizona

Authors are invited to submit papers describing original research
contributions to the design, implementation, and analysis of
operating systems and related fields. The field of operating
systems has grown to interact with many other areas of computer
science, and the conference attracts attendees with diverse back-
grounds. We solicit papers in both the central and border areas
of the operating systems domain. Topics of interest include, but
are not restricted to:

Communication Language Issues Security
Distributed Systems Multiprocessor Systems Supercomputers
File Systems Performance Evaluation Transactional Approaches
Hardware-Software Interfaces Reliability Virtual Memory

Papers should be no longer than 5000 words (about 20 double-
spaced pages) and must not have been published elsewhere or be
under consideration for publication elsewhere. The title of the
paper and the authors' names and addresses should appear on a
cover sheet accompanying the paper. The authors should not be
identified in the paper itself. Blind reviewing will be done by
the program committee, assisted by outside referees.

Please send twelve copies of your paper to:

                    Prof. John Ousterhout
                    Computer Science Division
                    Department of EECS
                    University of California
                    Berkeley, CA 94720

Authors of accepted papers will be expected to sign an ACM copy-
right release form. Proceedings will be distributed at the sym-
posium and published as a special issue of Operating Systems
Review, the SIGOPS quarterly. Papers of particular merit will
also appear in a special issue of the ACM Transactions on Com-
puter Systems.
