Abstract:
The usual "black-box" parametrization of linear compartmental models
as a sum of exponential terms implicitly assumes that the eigenvalues
of the transition matrix are real and distinct. A new parametrization is
proposed which is shown to extend the usual model to include complex
eigenvalues (damped oscillations) and double eigenvalues (resonances).
