[ont.events] Toronto Siggraph Group meeting

tom@alias.UUCP (Tom Burns) (11/05/89)

There will be a meeting of the local Toronto Siggraph group Nov 21.

What: Toronto Siggraph Meeting
When: 8 pm, Tues Nov 21, '89
Where: Rm 2103, Sanford Fleming Building, U of T
10 King's College rd (north of College St, west of McCaul St)
(we won't be able to fit in this room so come a little early
and there will be a map on the door of 2103).

All interested are urged to attend, as this meeting will include:
(1) the voting which was delayed from last month, here are the nominees:

John Faichney - President (The Arts Television Centre)
Eugene Fiume - Vice President (Faculty, CSRI)
Andrew Woo - Treasurer (SAS Institute)
Tom Burns - Secretary (Your humble correspondent)

and

(2) a presentation on "Dynamics in Animation" with examples of
physically-based constraints in animation systems, and a videotape with
neat things like using collision detection to trigger sound effects.

Possible discussions:

An interesting idea was presented by Marilyn Mantei (CSRI Faculty, I
believe) about integrating SIGCHI and SIGGRAPH. Perhaps two local groups,
incorporated separately but sharing meeting facilities, or two executive
councils for business but an undifferentiated membership, or ???

I may have some 8mm video of Nicograph '89 (the Japanese Siggraph)
ready by then to show as I'm travelling to Tokyo on the 5th.
Otherwise I'll save it for a future meeting.

Upcoming events include a visit to a major Toronto post-production
house (reservations required). If you are unable to make it, and wish
to be placed on the mailing list, please e-mail me your name & address,
and I will send out a summary of the meeting. If you have responded to
an earlier announcement and have not received a mailed summary of last
month's meeting, try again. (I am new at managing mailing lists).

See you,
