SEMINAR
SOFTWARE PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING
Sponsored by The Naval Ocean System Center and The Office of
Naval Technology
August 21 -24 1989
Presented by: Connie Smith, PhD
Location: NWC, China Lake, California
Restricted to DoD personnel and DoD contractors
The seminar includes techniques for designing high
performance mission critical systems, and fundamentals for
modelling and assessing the performance impact of design
decisions throughout the life-cycle. It will be shown how
designs can be modified iteratively, converging on the
required performance. The seminar includes a workshop that
provides actual experience with the software performance
models. The seminar not only presents the tools and
techniques for assessing responsiveness, but also addresses
the pragmatic aspects of how the necessary information is
obtained, who should do it, when, and other project
management issues.
Seminar Objectives:
Methods for constructing responsive systems, and how to
integrate them with mil-std software engineering
methodologies.
How to construct models of software to predict
performance.
How to use them to evaluate software requirements,
designs, data structure and algorithm alternatives, and
computer configurations before implementation begins.
Strategies and techniques for gathering pertinent data.
Performance management techniques appropriate for each
life cycle stage.
