We are looking for references/pointers to any study on "usage dependencies" and "call dependencies" of UNIX (System V/BSD) system calls. We are using the terms "usage dependency" and "call dependency" to mean the following respectively: Usage dependency: A system call S1 is (sometimes/always) usage dependent on another system call S2, if the use of S1 must (sometimes/always) be preceded by the use of S2. Call dependency: A system call S1 is (sometimes/always) call dependent on another system call S2, if the execution of S1 (sometimes/always) involves the execution of S2 (i.e., call of S2 is nested). Any help will be highly appreciated. We'll be glad to email the compiled responses to other interested persons.
