[comp.os.research] Distributed systems for teaching courses

narten@cs.albany.edu (Thomas Narten) (01/07/91)

I will be teaching a second semester graduate-level operating systems
course, and I would like to solicit suggestions or recommendations on
a distributed system that can be used for programming projects. I am
particularly interested in comments from persons who have used such
systems *in courses*, rather than as part of their research projects
(students are generally less tolerent of buggy or poorly documented
software than researchers).

The (rough) course contents is as follows:

   - cover an average of 3 research papers per week
   - offer 3 to 4 programming projects, most likely one large project
split into parts. Group projects may be given.

All comments would be appreciated, especially those relating feedback
from experiences in specific courses.
