                              THEORY SEMINAR
               GB244, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday 23 January 1990

                          Professor Ashok Chandra
                     Thomas J. Watson Research Center

"Towards More Realistic Models of Parallel Machines"

One of the fundamental concerns that influences the design of parallel
machines is the difficulty of communicating between processors. For
example, the latency of access to a remote memory location can be ten to a
thousand times larger than access to local memory, depending sequential
running time (which would be the best possible situation anyway).

Note: This seminar is supported by the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research
Center, through their "Lectures in Computer Science Program".
