CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
Workshop on the Management of Replicated Data
Sponsored by
IEEE Computer Society-TC on Operating Systems
The Houstonian Hotel, Houston, TX
November 8-9, 1990
You are invited to attend the first IEEE Workshop on the
Management of Replicated Data, which will be held November 8-9
at the Houstonian Hotel in Houston. This workshop will bring
together researchers and developers interested in the various
problems raised by the management of replicated data in dis-
tributed systems. Possible topic areas to be addressed
include:
* Experiences with fault-tolerant management of replicated
data
* Recent advances in replication control protocols
* Efficient recovery strategies
* Identifying significant levels of partial consistency
* Estimating the overall reliability of distributed systems
that depend on replicated data,
* Commercial application of replicated data and services
* Current technologies (how they work, what they are suitable
for)
To maintain a true workshop setting, attendance will be lim-
ited to sixty active workers in the field. Potential atten-
dees should mail eight copies of a two to four page position
paper to J.-F. Paris, the program committee chair, by April
15, 1990. This position paper should describe the current
involvement of its author(s) with replicated data management
and mention possible insights and lessons gained from recent
research and practical experience.
The workshop will be preceded on November 7 by a one-day
tutorial on Fault-Tolerant Computing Techniques by Kenneth
Birman from Cornell University.

CALL FOR PAPERS
25TH ANNUAL SIMULATION SYMPOSIUM
In conjunction with the 1992 SCS Simulation Multiconference
April 6-9, 1992, Orlando, Florida
The Annual Simulation Symposium is a forum for the inter-
change of ideas, techniques, and applications among practi-
tioners of simulation in industry, government, and academia.
In recent years the Symposium has provided a forum for trad-
itional simulation topics in discrete-event, continuous,
digital, and analog simulation. Along with the traditional
subjects, this year's Symposium is seeking papers in the
following topical areas:
* Distributed/Concurrent Simulation
* Modeling and Simulation of Multiprocessor/Parallel-
Processor Architecture
* Network Modeling and Simulation
* Simulation Languages and Tools
* Distributed Database and File Simulations
* Neural Network Models and Simulations
Authors are invited to submit a 1000-word abstract describ-
ing original and previously unpublished work. All submitted
abstracts will be reviewed by the program committee and,
based upon this review, authors will be invited to submit
full papers. Three copies of the abstract should be submit-
ted to the Speaker Chair no later than 9/16/91.
Please include full name, affiliation, address, phone
number, and e-mail address of each author and designate the
author which is to be contacted. Authors must obtain
employer, client, or governmental releases prior to submit-
tal of final manuscript. The full paper will be contained
in the symposium's proceedings which will be published by
the IEEE Computer Society.
The Ira M. Kay Memorial Prize of $500 will be awarded to the
best paper presented at the Symposium. Top papers will also
be considered for inclusion in the International Journal in
Computer Simulation.
Suggestions for panel discussions are also welcome.
Proposals should include a title, abstract, biography of the
panel organizer, and list of participants. Submissions of
panel proposals should be received by the Speaker Chair by
9/16/91.
