WILLIAM AND MARY REU SITE ANNOUNCEMENT
          Summer Research Fellowships for Undergraduates

The College of William and Mary anticipates being named as a
"Research Experiences for Undergraduates" site under a grant from
the National Science Foundation. At least 8 undergraduate students
will participate in individual research projects with faculty
members during the period June 18 - August 10, 1990. The unifying
theme will be matrix analysis and applications, and among the
faculty advisers at William and Mary will be John Drew, Charles
Johnson, Rex Kincaid, Chi-Kwong Li, Leiba Rodman, Doug Shier,
Tamir Shalom, and David Stanford.

Students chosen to participate will receive free on campus
housing, a subsistence/travel allowance, and a stipend of
approximately $2,000. Applicants must not yet have completed an
undergraduate by June, should have completed at least a basic
course in linear algebra and have a strong interest in
mathematics. An application should consist of a letter 1) listing
mathematics courses taken together with grades (descriptions of
the course listing the text would also be helpful) and 2)
describing any other mathematical interests, experiences or
achievements the applicant might wish to report. The applicant
should also arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent by
mathematicians with whom the student has had significant contact
(such as a course). Applications should be addressed to Professor
Rex Kincaid, Department of Mathematics, College of William and
Mary, Williamsburg, VA 23185 (Electronic mail: #RRKINC@WMMVS on
bitnet. Phone: (804) 221-2038). The deadline is March 16,1990.

Further information may be obtained from Charles Johnson at the
same address (Bitnet: #CRJOH2@WMMVS . Phone: (804) 221-2014.) or
from Professor Kincaid.
