- - CONVENTION UNIX 88 CALL FOR PAPERS CONVENTION UNIX 88 The French Association of Unix Users (AFUU), in cooperation with the Bureau International de Relations Publiques (BIRP), is organising a combined exhibition and technical conferences with tutorials, which will held in Paris at Espace Champerret between the 7th and 10th of March 1988. The first day will present a series of tutorial sessions, and the next three days will be devoted to the Exhibition and Technical Conference running in parallel. CALL FOR PAPERS The Program Committee wishes to establish this annual event as a unique opportunity for interested parties to focus on the present and future state of UNIX. The UNIX CONVENTION 88 is primarily a French event. It is expected that a considerable number of overseas visitors will however take part. The committee invites any individuals or organisations to propose papers for presentation at this event. The proposed topics are as follows, although the committee will consider any paper not conforming to this list : - Distributed UNIX Systems - UNIX and Videotex - UNIX and modern machine architectures (RISC, Parallel, Symbolic, Vectorial,...) - Man-Machine interfaces (voice, image, windowing, multimedia editors,...) - The end-user in a UNIX environment (softwares, developments, applications,...) - Licensing, Royalties, Copyrights, Public Domain software (legal problems involved, discussion of the quantity and quality of currently available public domain software). TUTORIALS The proposed topics are as follows : - Network softwares (kermit, uucp, mail, sendmail, news, RFC822, TCP/IP,...) - Writing drivers - C++ - Type-setting and printing documents under UNIX (PostScript, TeX,...) - X Windows (programming) - UNIX for beginners. PAPERS SUBMISSION DETAILS The official language of the event is French, although it is expected that several of the technical presentations will be made in English. The timetable of events is as follows : 1st December 1987 : Deadline for reception of the abstracts (200 to 500 words) by the Conference Secretariat. 15th December 1987 : Notification to authors of papers selected by the Program Committee. 1st February 1988 : Deadline for reception of the full papers by the Conference Secretariat. 8th March 1988 at 2 pm : Conference Opening.
