FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT - CALL FOR PAPERS and DEMONSTRATION OF INTEREST

SYMPOSIUM ON KNOWLEDGE-BASED SYSTEMS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

MONASH UNIVERSITY, Melbourne, Australia on 18 - 19 AUGUST 1988

This symposium aims to provide a forum for discussion of the issues
relating to the development of knowledge-based systems in Civil
Engineering.

More specifically, it will address expert systems in many areas of
Civil Engineering. Emphasis will be given to case studies of systems
development. Some of the topics to be discussed include: comparison
of expert systems tools, expert systems in the design process, the BX
expert system shell, the application of expert systems in the design
of structures, expert system for the rating of highway bridges,
pavement maintenance, speed zoning on roads, dampness in buildings,
water penetration in buildings, selection of site cranes for
construction, wind loader system, the timber engineering
code, interfacing of expert systems with water monitoring system, fire
code regulations, educational expert systems, statistical model guidance,
the parking codes, retaining wall design.

The symposium steering committee contains representatives from the
structural, water, transport, geotechnical, research and management
communities in Civil Engineering.
