Please post the following, which is the call-for-papers and an short
summary of a recent SIGGRAPH executive committee policy change that
affects the conference.

			Call for Papers

			ACM SIGGRAPH '88
			August 1-5, 1988
			Atlanta, Georgia

Submission of Papers Due January 12, 1988 (see below)

The SIGGRAPH Executive Committee has recently modified the conference
guidelines to encourage a more flexible technical program at the
SIGGRAPH annual conference. This reflects a desire to broaden the
coverage of computer graphics and to recognize the diversity of its
practitioners.

The new guidelines open up the possibility of accommodating more papers
in the technical program, with a breadth that is representative of
computer graphics today, but with no compromise in the high quality
associated with SIGGRAPH. All those active in the field of computer
graphics, whether researchers, developers, or systems integrators, are
encouraged to submit papers prepared according to the guide for authors
published in the Call for Participation, and which follows here.

Quoting from the SIGGRAPH'88 Call for Participation ... The technical
program is the primary focus of the annual SIGGRAPH conference and is
the leading forum for the presentation of new results in the field of
computer graphics. Previous SIGGRAPH conference proceedings have
become standard references in the field.

Previously unpublished papers in all areas of computer graphics and
interactive techniques are invited for formal review for the technical
program. Appropriate topics include, but are not limited to,
algorithms, animation, applications, CAD/CIM, color, computational
geometry, geometric modeling, graphics hardware, graphics systems,
image synthesis and interaction handling/techniques.

A submission should contain original research results or describe a
novel application and meet ACM standards for a scholarly publication.
Because of the tight review and production cycles, acceptance or
rejection of a paper must be based on the paper as submitted, which
should therefore be complete and refined. This procedure allows the
timely presentation of new results while maintaining the publication
standards of a reviewed journal.

Papers should include a 100 to 300 word abstract, explain how the
reported results relate to other work, and discuss the significance of
the work. The paper should present sufficient detail of the new work
plus appropriate background to enable the reviewers to assure
themselves that the ideas presented are correct and that the work
described could be duplicated. The maximum final formatted length of
the accepted papers will be eight double-column pages, which
corresponds to approximately 20 unformatted, double-spaced, typed
pages.

Five copies of each paper must be received by Tuesday, January 12,
1988. Papers not in the technical program office at that time will not
be reviewed. Papers which clearly do not meet SIGGRAPH's standards for
applicability, originality, completeness or page length may be rejected
without review. Acceptance notification will be by late March 1988 and
final, camera-ready papers will be due by mid-May 1988.

One copy of video or film material integral to the paper should
accompany the paper. All such material will be returned. It is
suggested that video material be restricted to VHS or 3/4" format, with
the former as a first choice.

Since the technical program office is in Canada, all material submitted
from outside Canada must have the statement "Scientific Technical
Matter-No Commercial Value" on the outside of the envelope or courier's
package (otherwise customs delays may occur).

Be sure to allow sufficient time for material to reach the technical
program office, especially if using regular mail.

Contributors are encouraged to call the SIGGRAPH conference management
office at (312) 644-6610 to request an author's packet. These packets
provide further detail about ACM publication standards, submission
guidelines and the SIGGRAPH reviewing process.
