                       Call For Participation
                  Second International Workshop on

                       Artificial Intelligence
                                and
                             Statistics

                          January 4-7, 1989
                     Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

PURPOSE
The workshops on Artificial Intelligence and  Statistics  aim  to
bring  together  researchers  in AI and Statistics to broaden the
flow of information  between  the  fields.   The  purpose  is  to
encourage  interdisciplinary  work,  which  research  to date has
found to be fruitful, between the two fields.

FORMAT
To encourage interaction and  a  broad  exchange  of  ideas,  the
presentations  will  be  limited  to  30  talks in single session
meetings during three days. Attendance at the workshop  will  not
be  limited,  however.   The three days of research presentations
will be preceded by a day of tutorials.   The  language  will  be
English.

The Workshop will focus on work in the following areas.
AI in Statistics               Statistics in AI
1. Consultation Systems        1. Uncertainty Propagation
2. Statistician's Assistants   2. Clustering and Concept Formation
3. Knowledge Representation    3. Statistical Methods
   for Statistics                 for Knowledge Acquisition

TO PARTICIPATE
Two copies of an extended abstract (up to four pages)  should  be
sent  by  air  mail  to W. Gale postmarked before March 31, 1988.
Please indicate which topic your abstract addresses.   Acceptance
notices  will be mailed by June 30, 1988.  Preliminary papers (up
to 20 pages) should be  returned  by  September  30,  1988.   The
preliminary   papers  will  be  copied  and  distributed  at  the
