-- COURSE PROPOSALS

The themes developed for the courses must allow the participants access to
the different aspects of computer graphics by means of a general approach
to the subject (image synthesis, geometric modelling, image rendering,
texture mapping ...) or by the study of more specific areas (medical
imaging, remote sensing, creative art, animation in 2 and 3D ...).

In the first case it is possible to define the course on different levels
(initiation, perfection, specialization) as well as a general course for
beginners and one specifically for young people A printed support of at
least thirty pages, written in one of the official languages of PIXIM 88
(French and English), will be distributed to each of the participants. The
courses will have a minimum length of one-half day and will be presented
during the first two days of PIXIM 88.

Proposals for courses must at least include the name or names of the
insructor(s), the title of the course, a brief description (in several
lines) of the subject and the level of knowledge required for
participation as well as a description (in one or two pages) giving the
contents of the course. Three copies of such proposals must be sent before
February 19, 1988 to the address noted below.

The course authors will be notified of acceptance or refusal of their
proposals no later than March 19, 1988. If accepted, three copies of the
written material to support said course must be received no later than May
15, 1988.

The final program of the Courses sessions will not be published until a
selection has been made from the proposals submitted to the Courses
Committee.

All material concerning proposed courses should be sent to:

-- PARTICIPATION IN TECHNICAL PANELS

A number of sessions will animate and develop the following subjects (list
suggested but not limitative):
	- Computer graphics and the economy
	- Interaction: computer graphics and product concepts
	- Modelling and visualization of scientific and technical results
	- Computer graphics and bio-medical applications
	- Computer graphics and the audio-visual and publicity fields
	- Electronic publishing
	- Computer graphics and scientific museology
	- Future evolutions of hardware and software
	- Remote sensing

Proposals for the organization of Technical Panel Sessions, or for
participation as a panel speaker, will require a resume of two pages
maximum length (in French or English) and include, in the case of a panel
session proposal, a list of the participants, limited to 5.

For each approved panel session there will be a document required which
will be published and distribute to the attendees of that session.

Particular attention must be paid to the preparation and creation of any
audio-visual aids presented.

Panel proposals, in five copies, must be received no later than March 1,
1988. Acceptance or rejection of such proposals will be made no later than
April 15, 1988.

The final program of the Technical Panels Sessions will not be published
until a selection has been made from the proposals submitted to the
Technical Panels Committee of PIXIM 88.

-- ART SHOW MATERIAL

The Art Show of PIXIM 88, open to the general public, will consist of a
group of recent or unpublished works which affords an appreciation of the
place computer graphics have taken in today's creativity.

Creation of images, plastic art, but also research on the poetry of the
immaterial, on the interactivity, on the simulation. This specific must be
illustrated by works of diverse forms (prints, photographs, holographs,
videographs, computer screens, animated objects and objects to manipulate,
frame buffers, networks, etc.) but constitutes autonomous "installations".

The technological and esthetic experience proper to the medium of computer
imagery naturally imposes a joint step to be taken by conceivers and
makers of hardware and software, authors of images and of applications.
Artistic proposals can thus become the object of projects for which PIXIM
88 will facilitate the creation and the result.

Considered will be, apart from works conceived in an explicitly artistic
perspective, works belonging to the domains of computer graphics which
associate formal research with the demands of functional production:
architecture, styling, publishing, etc. The artistic imagination must
equally solicit certain scientific domains where the computer graphic is
the support of extraordinary simulations and explorations: biology,
geography, astronomy, fluid dynamics, quantum mechanics, etc. The Call for
Art Show Material of PIXIM 88 is thus also addressed to achievers who
present and interpret such applications.

Proposals for the Art Show of PIXIM 88 must be sent to the Art Show
Committee no later than January 15, 1988 and the works submitted must be
sent no later than April 1, 1988. Notice of acceptance or rejection will
be sent to the creators no later than July 1, 1988.

Your Customs declaration must state: "educational material - no commercial
value" and, if required, a value for customs based on the actual worth of
the film raw stock only or of the video cassette only or of the tape
support only. Do not insure the material.

Send all document to the following:

-- FILM AND VIDEO MATERIAL

Autumn in France is marked by the first pressing of the grape harvest and
everyone waits for the "new wine" tastings and Beaujolais Nouveau. In a
like manner, the PIXIM 88 Film & Video Show will be the place of "tasting"
the latest in animated computer imagery, but our harvest starts a little
earlier.

An international jury, presided over by Messrs Koichi Omura of Osaka
University (Japan) and David Niles of Captain Video (Paris & New York),
will select and assemble the best of the material submitted into a show
which will be worthy of the state of the art and which will be given
during several evenings in the auditorium of la Grande Halle de la
Villette, in Paris.

The best projection and sound equipment available for the presentation
will be used. No prizes will be given because there will be no bias or
favoritism shown to entries having larger budgets or more sophisticated
hardware available. It is PIXIM 88's intention to encourage a broad scope
of entry material based on (although not necessarily in this order):
	- Originality of ideas / Concept
	- Contents / Scope
	- Technical excellence
	- Creativity
	- Production quality and image definition

Material not chosen for the Film and Video Show will be given a separate
projection facility for public screening in La Grande Halle de La
Villette.

All submissions must be received in Paris no later than April 15, 1988.
All proprietary material will be returned to the point of origin on
request. It must be marked: "Attention David Niles - for PIXIM 88".

Your Customs declaration must state: "educational material - no commercial
value" and, if required, a value for customs based on the actual worth of
the film raw stock only or of the video cassette only or of the tape
support only. Do not insure the material.

If shipping other than by air mail, please notify David Niles, giving
airwaybill number, flight number, etc.

Material must be sent to:
