- - - FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS Third European Symposium on SPACE THERMAL CONTROL AND LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands 3-6 October 1988 Purpose Following the successful symposia in Munich (1978) and Toulouse (1983) on Spacecraft Thermal & Environmental Control Systems, the European Space Agency is planing to organise the third symposium in October 1988. The main aim is to foster exchange of ideas and experience between European and non-European companies, organisations and universities in all areas covered by spacecraft thermal control and life support disciplines. The symposium will provide an opportunity to review the state-of-the-art of the technology required by the new European space projects, in particular Columbus and Hermes. Topics The symposium will concentrate on the following main topics: Spacecraft Thermal Control - passive techniques - heat pipes - fluid loops - advanced heat transport (e.g two-phase loops) - heat rejection - thermal protections Space Cyrogenics - open systems (cyrostats) - mechanical refrigerators Life Support and Habitability - atmosphere management - water management - waste management - hygiene - CELSS - EVA - habitability & crew accommodation Analysis and Verification - thermal & life support software - thermal testing - simulations - In-Orbit Performance Analysis Organising Committee E Slachuyders ESA/ESTEC (Chairman Programme Committee) J F Redor ESA/ESTEC (Chairman Organising Committee) W Dierssen Fokker (The Netherlands) J Gulpen MBB/ERNO (Germany) T Hayashi ISAS (Japan) W R Humphries NASA/MSFC (USA) J Lizon-Tati Aerospatiale (France) H Loesch DFVLR (Germany) J Mauduyt CNES (France) N Nervegna Politecnico di Torino (Italy) C Savage ESA/ESTEC I Skoog Dornier Systems (Germany) C Stroom ESA/ESTEC T D Guyenne ESA/ESTEC (Editor) Representative of GLAVCOSMOS (USSR) [tentative] Call for Papers Papers for presentation at the symposium will be selected on the the basis of extended abstracts of 300 to 500 words of a suitable quality for publication in the abstract book. Selection of the paper will be made on the basis of the following considerations: - General interest of the subject - Quality of the content - Relevance to spacecraft thermal control and life support - Originality of the ideas presented - Clarity of abstracts Papers that are only designed to advertise a product or a firm's capabilities will not be accepted.
