- - - - CALL FOR PAPERS AND REFEREES HAWAII INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SYSTEM SCIENCES - 22 Software Productivity KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII - JANUARY 3-6, 1989 The Software Track of HICSS-22 will contain a special set of papers focusing on a broad selection of topics in the area of Software Productivity. The presentation will provide a forum to discuss new advances in theory and applications in software productivity. Software productivity has become an important issue in that information-age organizations rely on their ability to manage information effectively and effi- ciently to attain the strategic goals of heightened compet- itive advantage and increased enterprise productivity. When software development budgets are regularly exceeded and software delivery delayed, organizations stand little chance of reaching their goals. Improving software productivity has become a high-priority issue on the agenda of both software researchers and MIS managers. However, problems in software productivity have only been tackled by researchers from a single discipline with one technique and method. This mini-track calls for papers from various disciplines on software productivity research di- rections and frameworks, integrated software development methods, tools, and environment for productivity improve- ment, as well as case studies, field studies, and laboratory experiments on software productivity. In particular, this mini-track would will focus on researches and applications which integrated multiple disciplines and techniques to the solutions of software productivity problems. Papers are invited that may be theoretical, concep- tual, tutorial or descriptive in nature. Those papers selected for presentation will appear in the Conference Proceedings which is published by the Computer Society of the IEEE. HICSS-22 is sponsored by the University of Hawaii in cooperation with the ACM, the Computer So- ciety, and the Pacific Research Institute for Information Systems and Management (PRIISM). Submissions are solicited in: o Integration of Software Processes, Methods, and Envi- ronments for Software Productivity: This includes the increase of software productivity by the development and use of fourth generation languages, computer- aided software engineering tools, reusable software components, software factories, and knowledge-based software development environments. o Human and Organizational Factors in Software Develop- ment: This includes studies of the cognitive proc- esses of software developers, the selection and adoption of productivity tools, factors that contrib- uted to the high productivity of software developers and software project teams, and the organizational efforts and behaviors in improving software produc- tivity. o Software Productivity Measurement and Programs: This includes research in software cost estimation models, software metrics, relationships between software pro- ductivity and corporate productivity, software pro- ductivity of professional system development and end-user computing, software quality assurance, soft- ware factories, and implementation of company-wide software productivity improvement programs. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING PAPERS Manuscripts should be 22-26 typewritten, double-spaced pages in length. Do not send submissions that are sig- nificantly shorter or longer than this. Papers must not have been previously presented or published, nor cur- rently submitted for journal publication. Each manuscript will be put through a rigorous refereeing process. Manuscripts should have a title page that includes the ti- tle of the paper, full name of its author(s), affiliation(s), complete physical and electronic address(es), telephone number(s) and a 300-word abstract of the paper. DEADLINES o A 300-word abstract is due by March 30, 1988. o Feedback to author concerning abstract by March 31, 1988. o Six copies of the manuscript are due by June 6, 1988. o Notification of accepted papers by September 1, 1988. o Accepted manuscripts, camera-ready, are due by Octo- ber 3, 1988 SEND SUBMISSIONS AND QUESTIONS TO: Jay F.
