You may cancel your conference registration and/or housing reservation by mail or telephone before July 1, 1988. What is the VM Workshop? The first VM Workshops were held in the 1970s. The Workshop became an annual meeting in 1981. Wichita State hosted the conference from 1981-1983, Kansas State in 1984-85, University of Kentucky in 1986, and Brigham Young University in 1987. In recent years the annual workshops have been attended by over 300 individuals. The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for individuals and organizations with an interest in VM to exchange information and experiences. To this end we strongly encourage attendees to participate by making a presentation at the conference. Participants from sites which run VM (including profit oriented and non-profit organizations with business, research, education and service objectives), as well as participation from vendors who provide VM utilities and applications are welcome. The focus of the 1988 VM Workshop will be on Connectivity. Since the introduction of a variety of hardware ranging from microcomputers through advanced workstations, departmental systems, and mainframes to supercomputers it has become increasingly important to provide a means for these systems to communicate and interact with each other and with the user, preferably using a simple common interface. Often these networked systems include both hardware and software from a number of different vendors. We plan to include sessions addressing connectivity topics including: Communications Options (eg., TCP/IP, Asynchronous, and X.25) Distributed Processing Systems Application Architecture (SAA) Of course there will be sessions on other VM topics such as: VM/XA SP Experiences SP Release 5 Experiences VM System Futures Local Modifications and Tools Presentations and Demonstrations We encourage every installation represented to make at least one presentation. The Workshop is fairly informal. We can accommodate presentations of varying length. If you have something interesting to talk about, but only need 15 or 30 minutes, that's fine. If you would like to give a presentation please contact us by electronic mail (WORKSHOP@MSU.BITNET), U.S. Mail (VM Workshop, 220 Computer Center, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824), or telephone 517-353-1800. The Program Coordinator will contact you for the session title, abstract, length of talk, and audio/visual requirements. Overhead projectors will be available for each session. In addition, we can provide flip charts, chalk boards, slide projectors, computer projectors, microcomputers, and VCRs and monitors, if requested by July 1, 1988.
