IMACS and the Computing About Physical Objects Laboratory (CAPO) "The Conference on Expert Systems for Numerical Computing" Dec. 5-7, 1988 Purdue University W. Lafayette, IN Rationale: Many diverse groups have started work on projects to aid in the use of complex software systems, and to guide nonspecialists in the many choices that have to be made when they want to use computers for scientific applications. This international conference will bring together active researchers ihto exchange ideas, viewpoints and techniques. Topics: AI and expert systems, analysis and design of user interfaces for expert systems, knowledge-based systems for scientific applications, expert systems for mapping applications to parallel architectures and to support parallel processing, advisory expert systems for general-purpose scientific software libraries, sophisticated user interfaces for scientific/engineering systems, etc. Submissions: Authors should submit 3 copies of an extended abstract (2 to 3 pages) by July 31, 1988. Contributors will be notified regarding acceptance by Sept. 15; deadline for final manuscripts is November 30. Abstracts and enquiries should be submitted to the conference coordinator: Professor Elias N. Houstis Dept. of Computer Science Purdue University W. Lafayette, IN 47907-2004 (317) 494-6003 enh@cs.purdue.edu Abstracts will be available at the meeting. IMACS will publish conference proceedings in a special issue of "Mathematics and Computers in Simulation." The best papers presented at the conference will be selected for the proceedings.
