First Notice & Call for Papers INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTERS IN URBAN PLANNING AND URBAN MANAGEMENT Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning University of Hong Kong Hong Kong, August 22-25, 1989 SPONSORED BY : Australian Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (AURISA) Eastern Regional Organization for Planning and Housing (EAROPH) Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) Information Technology Division, American Planning Association (APA) Royal Australian Planning Institute (RAPI) Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Spatially-Oriented Referencing Systems Association (SORSA) With rapid development of computer technology, especially microcomputers, computers are more widely used in urban planning and management than in the past. The main objective of the Conference is to provide an international forum to exchange the experience of using computers in urban planning and management, to review the latest advancement in the use of computers in different sectors of planning, and to discuss the impact of future computer technology on urban planning and management. This Conference is one of the most important international meetings on the use of computers in urban planning and management held in Asia, one of the fastest growing areas in the world. SESSIONS : Invited and contributed papers will be presented in the following main sessions of the Conference which discuss the design and use of general, geographic/land information system, management information system, computer aided mapping, computer aided design, simulation, modelling, and expert system software : 1) Land Use and Transport 2) Infrastructure and Social Facilities 3) Housing 4) Environment 5) Urban Planning and Managment Information System 6) Impacts of Computers on Urban Planning and Urban Management CONFERENCE LANGUAGE : English REGISTRATION FEE : US$250 after June 1, 1989 US$220 before June 1, 1989 US$200 for members of sponsoring institutes Registration fee includes conference papers, a technical trip, lunches, and tea and coffee ACCOMMODATION : Accommodation of will be arranged by a designated travel agency in Hong Kong TECHNICAL TRIP : A one-day technical trip will be organized to look at the use of computers in urban planning and management in Hong Kong, particularly in public housing and new town development. POST-CONFERENCE TOUR : Depending on the number of interested participants, post-conference trips to Beijing and the Pearl River Delta will be arranged. CALL FOR PAPERS : Papers related to the main sessions of the Conference are welcome. The deadline for submission of abstracts of papers for the Conference is January 31, 1989.
