			       Announcing a
			      TWO-DAY WORKSHOP

				    on

		 LOGIC PROGRAMMING - EXPANDING THE HORIZONS

	       Date - Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 February, 1989

	    Location - South Side Suite, Imperial College, London.

			   Under the auspices of

		      ALVEY/IED LOGIC PROGRAMMING CLUB
		ASSOCIATION FOR LOGIC PROGRAMMING - UK BRANCH
			SERC LOGIC FOR IT INITIATIVE

As the Alvey Logic Programming Initiative draws to a close, it is time to
take stock of the research done under the initiative, and to hear of other
significant LP work in the UK.	This two-day workshop will give a platform
for these presentations.  It will also provide an opportunity to air views on
new developments in LP and related areas.

The workshop is organized around the following themes.

	       Logic Programming theory
	       Implementation and architecture issues
	       Applications and the industrial context
	       Logic Programming in relation to other paradigms

Keynote speakers will give talks interspersed with panel sessions on the
basic themes, at which participants will be able to present results of recent
work, and discuss future directions.

The following have provisionally agreed to take part as guest speakers:

Robert Kowalski (Imperial College) John Lloyd (Bristol) David Warren
(Bristol) Herve Gallaire (ECRC) Alan Bundy (Edinburgh) Keith Clark (Imperial
College) Dov Gabbay (Imperial College)

There will also be a full programme of shorter presentations on significant
recent work in Logic Programming in the UK.

The meeting is sponsored under the Alvey Programme, with additional support
from the SERC Logic for IT Initiative.	It is also co-organized by the newly
formed UK branch of the Association for Logic Programming.

Attendance charges for the two day meeting will be:

    Academics			      - 50 Pounds
    Industrial/Commercial delegates   - 75 Pounds
    Students and (World) ALP members  - 30 Pounds

These prices include two lunches, evening meal on Monday 13th and light
refreshments.
