                           4th ATERB FPS Workshop
                           Sydney, 5-6 July 1989

                     Call For Papers And Registrations

The fourth Fast Packet Switching (FPS) Workshop will be held at the Overseas
Telecommunications Commission, Sydney, 5-6 July 1989. The workshop will
be jointly sponsored by the Australian Telecommunications and Electronics
Research Board (ATERB), Overseas Telecommunications Commission (OTC), and
Telecom Australia.

Last year's workshop was attended by 75 people from 23 organisations, and some
22 papers were presented. ATERB, Telecom and OTC are supporting a coordinated
program of complementary investigations relating to Fast Packet Switching and
its application to integrated broadband services.

The workshop will follow the same format established by the previous three,
all of which have been very successful.

Fast Packet Switching has been accepted by CCITT as the basis of the
future Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (B-ISDN) with standards
expected by 1992. It is expected that this will encourage representatives
from industry, in addition to research institutions, to participate in the
workshop.

 TRAVEL

In order to assist people attending the workshop, we hope to reimburse, from
ATERB funds, the cost of travel for one person from each participating
department. The workshop times have been arranged so that most interstate
visitors will only need to stay one night. Assistance will be limited to
economy class airfare and $90 travel allowance ($150 for Western Australia).

Travel grant recipients will be advised by mid May, but will be reimbursed by
ATERB after the workshop. Priority in funding will be given to those groups
engaged in, or with a firm intention to become engaged in, research relevant
to FPS.

Attendees are expected to make their own travel arrangements. To assist
attendees requiring accommodation block bookings will be made at a number
of conveniently located motels. Further details will be made available
closer to the date of the workshop.

If you do not wish to attend the FPS Workshop, but wish to remain on the
FPS mailing list, please return a registration form indicating this.

Finally would you please distribute this notice to other people who might
