			** Call for Participation **

			  Computers and Writing II
			       7-8 July, 1989
			 Sheffield City Polytechnic
			       Sheffield, UK

How can computers assist and enhance the writing process, both technical and
creative? What is the future direction of research and development in these
areas, and which paths should be avoided? Questions like these and more are
to be addressed at the second Computers And Writing conference.

Last year CIRG at Sheffield City Polytechnic hosted the first
Seminar/Workshop on Computers and Writing. This was a very successful
event, and this year promises to be bigger and better.

Papers, workshops and demonstrations on any of the following topics are
invited:

* designing software for writers
* teaching/training writers by computer
* cognitive models of writing
* electronic assessment of writing
* computerised story writing/interactive fiction
* computerised discourse modelling
* use of hypertext in writing
* using software writing tools
* experimental studies of the writing process

Papers in CAL, CALL, HCI and NLP which are concerned with writing will also
be considered.

The conference runs from 2pm Friday 7/July to 4pm Saturday 8th July at the
Collegiate Crescent site at Sheffield City Polytechnic.

There will be parallel streams, roughly divided into Users (teachers,
trainers, writers) and Researchers. Please indicate target stream, if
applicable. There will be common sessions. As with last years event, we
expect to publish all papers.

Please send proposed titles by February 14th to:
