CALL FOR PAPERS
SUPERCOMPUTING SYMPOSIUM '89
Chestnut Park Hotel, 108 Chestnut Street, Toronto, Ontario, June 19-21, 1989
"Supercomputing in the '90s"
____________________________
Sponsored by the Ontario Centre for Large Scale Computation
and the University of Toronto
The Canadian Supercomputing Symposium is devoted to the promotion of
supercomputing in Canada. The theme for this year's symposium is
"Supercomputing in the '90s". The Symposium will review the current state of
supercomputing in Canada and explore needs and trends for the coming decade.
Since its inception at the University of Calgary in 1987, the Canadian
Supercomputing Symposium has become an annual event of national significance
to supercomputing in Canada. The Ontario Centre for Large Scale Computation
(OCLSC) and the University of Toronto are pleased to be hosts of
Supercomputing Symposium '89 and we extend an invitation to all potential
academic, industrial and government participants, both inside and outside
Canada.
Authors are invited to submit papers on their current activities. Papers are
not restricted to any given topic, field or area of interest provided that
submissions are relevant to the general nature of the Symposium.
Topics of interest may include (but are not restricted to) the following:
* Supercomputing algorithms
* Computational science
* Distributed applications
* Scientific visualization
* Emerging supercomputer hardware and software standards
* Communications
* User education and support
* Productive supercomputing --- tools and techniques
* Federal/Provincial support of research and development in Canada
* The Federal Networks of Centres of Excellence Program
* Technology transfer between academia and industry
* Canadian supercomputing initiatives
* National and regional networking initiatives and activities
Authors may also present recent scientific results in supercomputer-based
computational science in any of the following (or other) areas:
* Applied Mathematics * Astronomy and Astrophysics
* Biology * Chemistry
* Computer Science * Engineering
* Environmental Science * Finance
* Geography * Geophysics
* Graphics * Hydrology
* Industrial Technology * Medicine
* Meteorology * Physics
* Pollution * Sociology
* Zoology
Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Program Chairman to discuss
the suitability of potential submissions.
Guidelines for Submissions
The Symposium is multi-disciplinary in nature. Authors presenting scientific
results should orient their submissions towards a technical lay audience.
Appropriate emphasis should be placed on those aspects of the work which cross
disciplinary boundaries. Particular emphasis on supercomputing methods and
techniques would be desirable.
To facilitate preparation of the symposium program authors should notify the
program chairman by April 30, 1989 of their intention to submit a paper. To be
accepted, authors submitting papers for presentation at the Symposium must
register for the conference (advance fee: $250, students: $150). To ensure
that author's presentations are scheduled in the final symposium program,
camera-ready final papers should be submitted to the Program Chairman by June
1, 1989.
Papers must include an abstract of approximately 150 words. The organizing
committee requests that four (4) copies be provided with each submission. All
accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. For more
