			Call For Papers and Referees

Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences - 23

			Software Issues in Computer Integrated
				Manufacturing

		Kailua-Kona, Hawaii - January 2-5, 1990

Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is characterized by
integration of business and manufacturing processes within a given
manufacturing enterprise. Traditional computing systems are built to
support separate functions within the enterprise. This has led to
significant capabilities in office automation, information systems,
CAD/CAM systems, real-time control systems, and resource planning
and scheduling systems. An integrated manufacturing philosophy
calls for the integration of all enterprise processes and the
development of appropriate computer support to enable the
integration to take place.

The need for the computer support of this integration is growing as
the manufacturing community attempts to realize the gains in
productivity that CIM promises. This CIM philosophy and the system
architectures that evolve from it will be an essential part of the
manufacturing industry in the coming years.

Papers are invited that may be theoretical, conceptual tutorial, or
descriptive in nature. Papers that focus on novel and innovative uses
of software to support integration in the manufacturing environment
are of special interest. Those papers selected for presentation will
appear in the Conference Proceedings, which are published by the
Computer Society of the IEEE, and, possibly, later also in a special
issue of a professional society periodical. HICSS-23 is sponsored by
the University of Hawaii in cooperation with the ACM, the IEEE
Computer Society, and the Pacific Research Institute for Information
Systems and Management (PRIISM). Submissions are solicited in the
areas:

+ Data Communication - Software designs and
implementations that will impact the factory environment and
	provide for integration of processes.

+ Distributed Systems - Software architectures that allow for
open system development and reconfigurable systems
including issues of parallelism, synchronization, and
	communication.

+ Database architectures - Support for multiple uses of
	manufacturing and business data.

+ CAD/CAM - Software used for integration of design and
	manufacturing processes.

+ Tools - Novel uses of software tools in the manufacturing
	environment.

+ Standards - Promotion of open system architectures for the
	factory.

+ Real-time Systems - Designed for an integrated
	environment.

Instructions for submitting papers: Manuscripts should be 22-
26 typewritten, double-spaced pages in length. Do not send
submissions that are significantly shorter or longer than this. Papers
must not have been previously presented or published, nor currently
submitted for journal publication. Each manuscript will be subjected
to a rigorous refereeing process involving at least five reviewers.
Manuscript papers should have a title page that includes the title of
the paper, full name(s) of its author(s), affiliation(s), complete
mailing and electronic address(es), telephone number(s), and a 300-
word abstract of the paper.

Deadlines:
 A 300-word abstract is due by May 15, 1989(extended).
Feedback to author concerning abstract by May 15, 1989.
Six copies of the manuscript are due by June 6, 1989.
Notification of accepted papers by September 1, 1989.
Accepted manuscripts, camera-ready, are due by
	October 3, 1989
