PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT

AUSTRALIAN TRANSPUTER AND OCCAM USER GROUP
CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

6 & 7 JULY 1989

In  conjunction  with  the  Centre  for  Advanced  Technology  in 
Telecommunications  within  the Department of  Communication  and 
Electrical  Engineering  at  the  Royal  Melbourne  Institute  of 
Technology,   the  second  Conference  and  Exhibition   of   the 
Australian  Transputer and OCCAM User Group will be held  at  the 
Royal  Melbourne  Institute  of Technology.  The  Conference  and 
Exhibition  will  provide an opportunity to focus on  the  latest 
research   and  developments  in  transputers,   transputer-based 
technology  and applications using transputers in the  Australian 
environment.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The  Conference  will  focus on the latest  developments  in  the 
transputer  family, the language support for transputer  systems, 
and applications. Papers on such developments are being solicited 
from interested persons. Persons wishing to submit a contribution 
in  the  form of a paper and/or demonstration should  provide  an 
abstract as soon as possible to the Conference  Convenor, Mr John  
Hulskamp,  at the address given below. Final camera-ready  papers 
should be provided on A4 paper, be no longer than 8 pages, by 2nd 
June 1989, in time for inclusion in a Conference Proceedings,  to 
be issued at the Conference.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Invitations  are  being made for INMOS personnel  to  attend  the 
Conference  to present up information on transputer  developments 
in Bristol, U.K., and Tokyo, Japan.

EXHIBITION

In   conjunction   with  the  Conference,  an   exhibition   will 
demonstrate  the  latest  equipment  being  developed  with   the 
transputer family. Persons and/or organisations wishing to  mount 
an  exhibit  are  most  welcome  to  apply,  and  discuss   their 
requirements with the Conference Convenor, Mr John Hulskamp.

CONFERENCE COSTS

The  all-inclusive Conference fee of $A245 will include  morning, 
afternoon  teas  and lunch on both days as well as  a  Conference 
Dinner. 

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

A  feature  of  this year's  Conference/Exhibition  will  be  the 
provision  of  a one-day pre-conference workshop on  Wednesday  5 
July  1989  to  provide an overview of  transputer  hardware  and 
software, including the following topics:

	What is a transputer, and what can it do for me?
	Parallel Processing and the transputer
	The OCCAM programming language for transputers
	Other high level language support for transputer-based systems

The  details  of this workshop is being finalised,  and  will  be 
offered subject to demand. The cost of attendance at this one-day 
workshop  will  be  $A95  (including  workshop  notes,   morning, 
afternoon  teas  and lunch) is not included in the  cost  of  the 
Conference   itself,  but  will  be  an  additional   charge   to 
participants.Further  courses  are  being planned,  and  will  be 
announced at the Conference.

			 KEYNOTE SPEAKER

A special feature of the Conference will be the keynote	 speaker,
Mr  Peter  Cavill, from INMOS (Bristol, U.K.). Mr Cavill  is  the
Technical  Director  of	 INMOS, and has been with  INMOS  for  10
years,	joining from Fairchild. He has been responsible	 for  all
Transputer, DSP, SRAM and graphics developments at INMOS. He  has
managed	 the Transputer project from the start, being  the  board
member responsible for new product definition and development.

Mr  Tony  Dent, General Manager, Asia Pacific from  INMOS  Japan,
will also be in attendance to assist in answering questions.

In   conjunction   with	 the  Conference,  an	exhibition   will
demonstrate  the  latest  equipment  being  developed  with   the

		     PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

A  feature of this year's Conference and Exhibition will  be  the
provision  of  a one-day pre-Conference Workshop on  Wednesday	5
July  1989  to	provide an overview of	transputer  hardware  and
software.  This Workshop is particularly directed at an	 audience
which has no prior knowledge of the transputer,	 transputer-based
technology  and	 parallel  processing with  the	 transputer.  The
Workshop will include the following topics:

What is a transputer, and what can it do for me?
Parallel Processing and the transputer
The OCCAM programming language for transputers
Other high level language support for transputer-based systems

The  cost  of attendance at this one-day workshop  will	 be  $A95
(including workshop notes, morning, afternoon teas and lunch)  is
not included in the cost of the Conference itself, but will be an
additional  charge to participants. Those wishing to attend  this
pre-Conference	Workshop  should book early, as numbers	 will  be
limited to 35 , and so that they can be informed as to the actual
location of the Workshop on the R.M.I.T. campus.
