		    Call for Nominations

		   1989 ACM SIGCOMM AWARD


This award is given annually to an individual who  has	made
outstanding  contributions to the theory or practice of data
communications, or whose  efforts  have	 otherwise  signifi-
cantly advanced the field.

The 1989 award, which is the first such award and includes a
cash  prize,  will  be	presented  at SIGCOMM '89 in Austin,
Texas, September 19-22.	 (The local contact for SIGCOMM	 '89
is Dr. Mohamed Gouda, University of Texas, Austin).

A nomination for a candidate should include a full  vita,  a
list  of publications, an essay on the candidate's most not-
able contributions to the field of data communications,	 and
a  one	sentence  summary  of the candidate's contributions,
suitable  for  an  award  plaque.   Supporting	letters	  of
endorsement, although not required, are strongly encouraged.
All nominations will remain confidential.  Candidates do not
have  to be members of ACM or SIGCOMM.	A description of the
awards	process	 will appear in the July '89  issue  of	 ACM
SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review.

Nominations are due by August 4th and should be sent to	 the
SIGCOMM	 Executive Board, c/o Craig Partridge,	Bolt Beranek
