Special Issue of Computer Magazine on

Cache and Interconnect Architectures in Multiprocessors

The June 1990 issue of Computer Magazine will be devoted to the
architecture and performance	of cache-based multiprocessors.
Manuscripts are immediately sought in the following areas:

o New solutions to the cache coherence	problem: novel hardware
protocols, and compiler-assisted cache protocols; emphasis is on
protocols for non-bus systems.
o Detailed descriptions of existing commercial systems and of
university or industry prototypes.
o Caching support for virtual memory and virtual-address caches
in multiprocessors.
o Trace-driven simulation techniques and results for cache-based
multiprocessors.
o Other performance evaluation techniques such	as measurements,
execution-driven simulation, or analytical models.

Additionally, a tutorial paper on cache coherence and on virtual
memory	for multiprocessor systems is solicited. This tutorial
should contain the background material	needed	by the computer
scientist who is not familiar with the topic of this special is-
sue.

	     INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts should be no more than 32 typewritten, double-spaced
single-sided pages in length (this is approximately 8,000 words),
including all figures and references. No more than 12 references
should	be cited. Papers must not have been previously published
or currently submitted	for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts
should	have a title page that includes the title of the paper,
full name(s) and affiliation(s) of its author(s), complete physi-
cal and electronic address(es), telephone number(s), a 300-word
abstract, and a list of keywords that identify the central issues
of the manuscript's content.

			    DEADLINES

o 300-word abstract of the manuscript is due as soon as possible.
o Eight (8) copies of the full manuscript are due by November 1,
1989.
o Notification of acceptance is January 1, 1990.
o Final version of the manuscript is due no later than	March 1,
1990.
