Tuesday, April 24 through Thursday Noon, April 26, 1990
Callaway Gardens (near Atlanta), Georgia, USA

Joint Sponsors: IEEE Quality Assurance Management Committee

Dear Prospective Participant:

I would like to invite you to participate in the 1990 Callaway Gardens
Workshop on Software Quality and Productivity in the 1990's.
This workshop will be held April 24-26, 1990, at the beautiful Callaway
Gardens Resort, just one hour south of Atlanta.

This year's workshop is sure to be one of the most exciting and informative
conferences ever! The general theme is "What changes will the
1990's bring to processes and measurement systems?" Participation
is invited on a wide range of topics including: quality, productivity,
testing, methodologies, and metrics. Please see the following "Call
for Participation" for a complete list of themes and topics.

Please note that you may choose to attend as either a speaker
or a participant. Also, participation will be limited to only
75 people! Again, please see the following "Call for Participation"
for more information.

At present, the registration fee for the workshop is estimated to
be $650, which will include the cost of the workshop, 3 nights' lodging,
and all meals (except for lunches). Spouses are welcome, and it is
estimated that the additional cost will be only $150, which will include
lodging and meals (except for lunches). Please note that these fees
are tentative.	Final fee and payment information will be provided
to all those who are accepted to attend. Do not send money at
this time!

Due to the limitation of the number of participants, I invite you
to submit a proposed paper abstract or experience statement as soon
as possible. Even though the official cutoff date is December 15,
1989, in order to facilitate processing, I would greatly appreciate
it if you could reply prior to November 15, 1989.

With your abstract or experience statement, be sure to include your:
name, title, company/affiliation, address, and phone number.

For those who have never visited Callaway Gardens, you will be amazed
by the wide variety of flora and beautiful scenery. Numerous lakes
and hiking trails are available, along with one of the world's most
scenic golf courses. Adequate time will be included in the workshop
schedule to permit everyone to enjoy the surrounding area. I am
looking forward to seeing you there!

OBJECTIVE

Techniques for measuring software quality and productivity have evolved
greatly during the 1980's. However, as we enter the coming decade,
new products, new development methodologies, as well as changing customer
attitudes towards quality, will all surely have a major impact on
the types of quality and productivity measurements that are used,
and on the way that they are reported.	In addition, "customer-perceived"
quality is likely to become an even-more-important factor than it
is today. There is a customer need for much-improved software quality
in new features and the evolving network.

The goal of this workshop is to provide a forum for developers, manufacturers,
providers, and users of telecommunications and other real-time applications
products, to discuss software quality and productivity processes and
measurements. Throughout each discussion, one or more of the following
questions should be addressed:

-- What processes, technologies, and measures do we have
now that will take on a more important role in the 1990's?

-- What processes and measures do we have now that will
become obsolete or unimportant in the 1990's?

-- What new development processes and technologies should
we be investigating for use during the 1990's?

Participation on the following topics is invited:

-- Software quality and productivity measures
   -- Software design development processes
   -- Testing methodologies
-- Product-based software quality measures to assess
       readiness for product deployment
-- Customer-based measures of software quality
   -- Software Quality Assurance
-- Methods and metrics for product benchmarking
   -- Software Quality Requirements
   -- New Software Technologies
   -- Vendor/Customer Partnerships

INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

of practical significance and to raise questions. When possible,
case studies should be presented to illustrate results.

In addition to prepared presentations, a number of panel discussions
will be arranged to discuss relevant issues.

Speakers should submit an abstract (between 200 and 500 words)
and high-level outline of a proposed presentation on a particular
topic.	A full paper will not be required. Other participants
