Fourth Eurographics Workshop
on Intelligent CAD Systems
"Added Value of Intelligence to CAD"
FIRST CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Chateau-Hotel de Mortefontaine, France
24-27 April, 1989
Aims and Scope:
During the last decade, applying knowledge engineering to
CAD has become a major area of research. One of the impor-
tant issues is how such research can be transferred to
existing CAD environments. The approach requires specific
design process control and design artifact representation
which are of particular interest to us. The scope of the
workshop includes the following subjects to be understood in
the context of ICAD Systems:
Experiments with Intelligent CAD systems
The object paradigm
Toolkits on top of problem servers
User interface management systems
Integration of advanced subsystems
(e.g. qualitative physics)
Integration of application software
(e.g. finite elements, databases)
Knowledge representations
Abstracts: We are planning to accept 20 papers and we shall
limit the total number of participants to 50. Please submit
3 copies of a single-spaced extended abstract of minimal
1000 and maximal 3000 words (not counting figures and refer-
ences) on A4 sheets before November 1, 1989 to the addres
below. Submission by electronic mail is encouraged as long
as the author sends the additional material (e.g. figures)
in time. If you are interested only in participating (but
not in presentig a paper) then you are still required to
submit an abstract which should take the form of a position
paper, explaining how you regard the issues of intelligent
CAD.
We are not planning to admit applicants who have not submit-
ted an extended abstract (or, as explained, a position
paper). Papers will appear in the proceedings. Invitation
to submit revised versions for a book (in the Eurogra-
phicSeminars Series) will depend on the quality of the con-
tributions. This workshop is organised by the University of
Technology of Compi`egne (UTC) and promoted by the
Eurographics Working Group ICAD (chairperson P.J.W. ten
Hagen, CWI, email marja@cwi.nl.UUCP).
Workshop Co-chairpersons: J.-P.A. Barth`es (UTC, France) and
K. El Dahshan (UTC, France).
Venue and fee: The workshop will be held at the "Ch^ateau-
H^otel de Mortefontaine", located in a forest, 10 minutes
north of De Gaulle International Airport, and 25 minuted
from Paris, France. The fee of 3500 French Francs includes
accomodation and food. The workshop starts on April 23rd
(Tuesday afternoon) with dinner and ends on April 27th (Fri-
day) after lunch. The fee for an accompanying non-
participating person is FF1500.
Programme Committee: A. Agogino (Univ. of California, Berke-
ley, USA), V. Akman (Bilkent Univ., Turkey), F. Arbab (Univ.
of Southern California, USA), P. Bernus (Univ. of Queens-
