We have a Xerox 1186 Lisp Machine, but no Xerox laser printer for it; nor is it connected to an Ethernet. In another corner of the office is a Mitek Model 100T Laser Printer, which is a value-added vendor's secure version of a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet+. Because we bought the printer through a value-added vendor, we have none of Hewlett-Packard's documentation for the underlying machine. Is there a way to get the Xerox machine to print its screen on this laser printer? If there are any software modifications to be made, or drivers to be added, they would have to be added to the Xerox, because the Mitek 100T is designed (for security reasons) so that it won't work with any ROM not supplied by Mitek. That means that if, for example, the HPGL graphics language is required by the Xerox, a converter incorporating that language would have to be stored in the Xerox, not in a ROM. Somehow, the output of the Xerox will have to be the precise set of HP escape sequences and data bytes needed to reproduce a screen or a window. Thanks. -- Matt Rosenblatt (matt@amsaa.ARPA)
