[comp.laser-printers] Black pages on Imagen 8/300

We have both an Imagen 8/300 and 2308 (aren't they the same?) on our LAN.
One of them is not too heavily used.  If it hasn't been used for about a
week, then all pages that come out (even with the test button on the Canon
engine) are all black.  Nothing we try seems to help.  Usually, after a
few hours, the problem mysteriously goes away.  Does anybody have any idea
what's happening?
