I have a Canon LBP-A1 with a Swiss (aka Helvetica) font cartridge hooked to an Olivetti M24 (IBM-PC compatible) running Microsoft Word. The first thing I noticed is that fonts larger than 10 point aren't available; the second thing was that the speed decreased drastically with the font cartridge installed (it's not half as bad with the Garland [= Times Roman] cartridge). So far I haven't succeeded in writing a Word printer description file that will produce a printout with a neat right margin. Fiddling with the character width table and the microspace flag didn't help. Has anybody written a working printer description file, or can anybody give me general hints how to convert a specification in the style of the Canon manual into a working printer description? Why does the Garland font cartridge work without problems? Thanks a lot in advance, and please reply > directly < to my address.
