Hello All:
I was wondering if there was someone outthere that could help
me with a small(to me it seems large) problem that I have.
Here are the facts:
Just recently I installed a LAN in the PC computer lab here
at Penn State (actually the York Campus of Penn State). This
consists a total of 21 AT&T 6300 (IBM PC compatibles).
the 21 computers are configured as follows
3 with 640KB and 1 hard drive and 1 floppy
18 with 640KB and 2 floppy drives
the above 21 computers have 3COM 3C501 boards
with the 3 hard drives systems configured as
servers.
Also each server has an IBM ProPrinter attached to the
parallel port.
Now the problem:
Recenlty there was purchased a HP LaserJet II printer which has
a 1 MB memory board installed. So following the directions in the
manual for the LaserJet, I made a wire and connected the LaserJet
to the AT&T 6300. I then tried the test that they showed to try out
the laser printer and it worked. Then I connected the laser printer
to the one server and reconfigured Etherprint so that it recognized
the laser as printer 2. I then started up the server and logged on as
a user of the server and connected to the printer with EP Link /2
at this point I then tried to print something out and everthing
seemed to go fine, but no output. I then checked the status of
etherprint and saw that my output was still in the print Queue
and didn't seem to go anywhere. The printer acted like it had
nothing to print. So i thought the serial port was bad on the server
so I rebooted the server but exited out to DOS instead of startin the
server. And then tried to print out. And I could get it to print
so i restarted the server and tried it again and Nothing again.
I also found out that I can't use the /DIRECT option either when I
link to the server I get a "server not responding" error.
Any help would greatly be appricieated. Since 3COM charges $40 a
question. Is there a problem with My hardware, or is the software
not compatible with the AT&T's serial port. Is there something wrong
with the LaserJet II? Is the a major difference between the LaserJet
and the LaserJet II (since I configure etherprint for a Laserjet and
not a LaserJet II). Or am I not doing something right with the hardware
software configuration.
Thanx In Advance
