Since we installed our Apple LaserWriter Plus on our VAX 8650, we've had troubles with Macintosh files. We have a number of PC-based users who upload their postscript files to the VAX to be printer on the laser printer. The IBM-PC files never cause problems and "ms" output always works. However, about 60%-90% of the time Macintosh files cause timeouts on the printer and usually destroy the next job in the queue. The problem is also irregular. The same file may work one time, yet foul up a minute later. We are running under Ultrix on the VAX 8650 and have software which does the correct font translation from what the mac puts out to what the printer expects (removing the underscores, mostly). In addition, we send the standard Mac prep file to the printer first. Since we sometimes get the correct output, I assume the problem lies in the Transcript driver flow control or that the Mac plays with the printer's configuration.
