I'm thinking of buying a color printer. The only "low-cost" one I've heard
about is the new Tektronics 4693D. It's an image printer capable of 16
million collors at 300 dpi. It costs from $8-12K depending on the
configuration.
Does anyone know anything about this or other color printers?

HP has a new color printer (it as a resolution of about 200x200 and prints 330 colors including true black). It is an inkjet and is extremely quiet. If it is like most of HP's peripherals, it is probably built to be dropped from buildings.

Hewlitt Packard makes a color ink jet printer called the "Paint Jet" for under $1500, and Tektronix makes the 4692 ink jet printer.
