I just looked into getting a Laserwriter (vanilla) upgraded into a Plus and got a big surprise: the dealer told me that he could get the upgrade kit with version 47 Postscript roms!!! Now, I was flabbergasted since all the recent articles I have read said that Apple had no intentions of offering a PS revision higher that the version 38 that is currently shipped with the LW+. So, who's telling the truth? Is Apple indeed2 changing their mind? Will they offer revision 47? Will they offer the roms to current LW+ owners? For how much? Are the LW+ models currently being shipped revision 38 or 47? For those of you who aren't aware, revision 47 boosts processing speed as high as 4X (in the case of bit-mapped graphics) and has an overall speed improvement over the revision 38 that the LW currently has. Apple is currently shipping all Laserwriters and Laserwriter pluses
with Rev 47 ROMs. There is an upgrade kit available for existing
Laserwriter plus owners, and Laserwriter owners can upgrade by
buying a Laserwriter plus upgrade kit.
There was a mailing to all the dealers in sep. that explains
the upgrade.
