[comp.laser-printers] New book on Digital Typography

CAB@SAIL.STANFORD.EDU (Chuck Bigelow) (06/04/88)

Digital Typography: an introduction to Type and Composition for
Computer System Design, by Richard Rubinstein (a Consulting Engineer
at DEC). Addison Wesley, 1988. isbn 0-201-17633-5. (don't know the price)

A good compendium of information about the main aspects of
digital typography, from type design to text composition. In addition
to offering a review of the literature and a survey of the kinds of
software tools that are out there in the typo world, Dick, from experience
as a human factors engineer, devises some clever quantitative measures
for various aspects of typographic images, which will be of interest
to the scientifically minded, and his personal interest in letterpress
printing makes him sensitive to typographic issues that would escape
a less enthusiastic investigator.

Chuck B. says check it out.
