We are currently using a new Laserwriter NTX with both some Macintoshes (via Appletalk) and some PCs (via the serial port). It took some doing (with breakout boxes, and dealing with things I don't really understand like XON/XOFF vs. DSR/DTR) to get the thing working with the PCs, but what I REALLY want to do is get it working with our 3B2/400 (running System V Unix V3.0) The main problems seem to be: a) pinouts: The 8-pin 3B2 to the 25-pin RS232C. Does anybody have a diagram of how this should work? b) Handshaking and Other Communications: I think I know the proper stty commands to put into the printer driver (I'm just using a stripped down dumb printer driver, since postscript is just ASCII, right?), but the SYSV manual says nothing about handshaking protocols. Anyone out there know? Initially, I just want to be able to use lp to send some postscript files to the Laserwriter, but in time I'd like to kludge up a driver that will make the Apple LW the default printer. If there is ANYBODY out there who has done this successfully, I would appreciate some information. Send responses to r.aminzade@lynx.northeastern.edu (CSNet and NSFNet) I am new to the nets, so forgive me if I am violating certain rules of ettiquite or protocols (e.g. no cute quote or ascii art with my signature...) -Russell Aminzade
