This probably refers to "Use caution when selecting a switch box" in the september/october issue of "laserjet journal". At $49/year (or $15/issue) we arn't planning to subscribe. Most of it was on PC to laserjet-II, not a single article on hooking a laserjet-2000 to a prime :-). The address is: Laserjet Journal 1945 Techny Road #14 Northbrook, IL 60062-9815 -------

It is certainly true that according to the specs on a true RS232-C interface, it should take something like a lightning strike to harm it. It is supposed to take considerable voltages above standard for short periods of time. I am cautious, however, because I have heard of driver chips fried and worse. Recently I have put in a 25pin to 25pin surge suppressor, from one of the mail order houses, and have started to live more dangerously. It is cheap enough insurance, assuming it works, and for the moment, with fingers crossed I am assuming it does. Email: mackay@june.cs.washington.edu Pierre A.
