[comp.laser-printers] Length of parallel port cables

steve@aries.UUCP (Stephen S. Kerr) (07/21/89)

I have a QMS PS-810 laser printer connected to an Annex II terminal server,
presently through a serial line. I want to use the parallel ports on both
the terminal server and the laser printer, but the manuals don't say how
long the cable can be. Can anyone tell me the maximum length allowed for
a parallel port cable?

Another related point: The QMS is capable of functioning at up to 56 Kbaud,
and the Annex II at up to 38.4 Kbaud, both on a serial line. Would it be
faster to run both at 38.4 Kbaud on the serial line, or run them both on
the parallel port?

Please reply to me directly, as I do not subscribe to this newsgroup. If
there is interest, I will summarize the replies and re-post. Thanks!
