[comp.laser-printers] administrative note: acceptance guidelines for messages

furuta@CS.UMD.EDU (Richard Furuta) (12/02/89)

I have found myself rejecting and editing a much greater number of
submissions to laser-lovers in the most recent batch than normal. I just
want to make a little statement about the criteria I am using, so that
writers can adapt messages accordingly. Unfortunately, I have been much too
busy these days to be able to send explanations to most of the authors of
rejected messages, and so please accept my apologies for such actions.

In general, I will reject any message that is purely incendiary. I don't
know about the poster's psychology, but these are the kind of messages that
I personally would have regretted sending approximately two seconds after
hitting the "send" key.

I also will reject a message that contains overt commercial solicitation.
These include attempts to sell used equipment, attempts to gain consulting
contracts, and those tied in too closely with the marketing of a product.
Such messages are prohibited on some of the networks the list is gatewayed
(...waid?) (...weighed?) (..wade?) into. This includes .signature files.

I am not applying a very strong technical filter these days, so I apologize
to regular readers for the repeating cycles of "what printer should I buy"
and "how many times can I recycle the cartridge" messages.
