I apologize if this question keeps cropping up in this group, but this is the first time I've had to deal with the problem: We have a bunch of HP laser printers, mostly LJ II's and +'s. We also have one of the original LaserJets with no expansion slot for added memory. I would like to know if there is any way (factory authorized or not) to increase the memory of this older machine to make it capable of handling high-res plots and more downloaded fonts. I am not adverse to using third party hardware or physically modifying the existing memory circuitry. Any advice that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated! (Purchasing a new LJ II or substituting one of our other printers for the older one is, unfortunately, not an option: it is part of a classified computer system and substitution would generate a lot of administrative headaches). I have used my Laserjet Plus for over three years now with no problems whatsoever except for the memory limitations of 512K. I used also Laserjets II, but I like the output from my model slightly better. It seems somewhat darker and richer. These are good reasons for anyone to keep their older Laserjets. I also had a lot more trouble refilling the cartridges for the II's. I could refill the LJ Plus cartridge up to 7 or 8 times. The LJ II ones poop out after the second time or cannot be refilled at all. I believe, HP overengineered the LJ Plus engine which they stopped doing on the LJ II. The printing drum also has a larger diameter which means the drum rotates fewer times to print a page (which means probably less wear?). Anyway, I really would like to keep this model, but I need more memory for it. HP's own upgrade path is too expensive for me. If anyone out there has successfully modified their LJ Plus, please let me know. I'd appreciate any pointers! Thanks, Vera.
