I have been sent on a mission to see if a postscript laser printer exists that will accept 11 by 17 inch paper. The people here doing circuit design work feel that this would be great help. Any and all help is welcome. Thanks in advance. jkl -- Jay Llewellyn | E.I. Du Pont de Nemours & Co. eplrx7!jkl@uunet.uu.net | Engineering Physics Laboratory (302) 695-8209/7395 | P.O. We recently installed an Imagen 6320 (owned by QMS now) that does Impress and UltraScript (a PostScript clone). It has duplex printing and can handle upto ledger (11 x 17) paper. I just finished writing a substyle for LaTeX which sets a two column format for direct transfer to large mats for a conference (NAECON). Before we had this printer, we had to print strips on letter or legal size paper and transfer those to the mats. Now I can get the whole image on an 11 x 17 piece of paper. Only problem was that something in either my dvips driver or the printer (most likely the driver) caused the output to start halfway down the page, which I solved by telling LaTeX its topmargin height was -6 inches. The only other minor complaint is that the print engine produces much lighter type than say a LaserWriter, but not nearly as bad as a DEC LNO3R ScriptPrinter. Otherwise, we've been pretty happy with this printer. Mark Roth mroth@afit.af.mil

Looking through the Adobe catalog, I see the following printers accept 11x17 paper: Dataproducts LZR 2665 DEC PrintServer 20 DEC PrintServer 40 Plus Varityper VT600-W Check with your local dealers. G'luck!

The Imagen 3320, 5320, 6320, and 7320 printers support ledger paper and are available with a PostScript emulator. A PostScript emulator is a program written by someone other than Adobe that attempts to implement the language described in the "PostScript Language Reference Manual" (often called the Red Book). We have a 5320 and a 7320. I have used PostScript on them but not with ledger paper. We have had only one problem involving compatability with the Adobe interpreter. The Imagen emulator does not support the proprietary format Adobe uses for downloadable fonts (this format is not part of the language specified in the Red Book). Since we bought the Imagen printers Imagen has been acquired by QMS. Business dealings with QMS have been a consistent problem. QMS is not very good at things like returning telephone calls and shipping the right merchandise on the promised ship date. The Nissho Electronics LN-2248B is advertised as supporting ledger paper and a PostScript emulator. It is also advertised as being able to support the proprietary font format mentioned above. I have no hands-on experience with this printer.
