I would like to know what people think about Pacific's Postscript cartridge for the HP LaserJet Series II? A friend of mine is starting her own desktop publishing company so she can work out of her home. Back to the point: She has a chance to get a HP LaserJet II with 2.5 Meg. of memory for around $1400 (used). I have been told that PostScript is almost a must for desktop publishing. So I wanted to know how well the PacificPage cartridge works. Are there other such cartridges out there? Thanks, & please send e-mail The NOBLE One Patrick W. RE: Pacific Page Postcript cartridge for HP-LJII I prepare a monthly 16-20 page newsletter, using Wordperfect, and an HP Laserjet II printer. I've been using the Pacific Page cartridge for approx 3 months now. Although it works very well, and the quality is quite good, it is painfully slow! There are limitations imposed by either Pacific Page's emulation (or maybe it's inherent in the printer) on the largest point sizes allowed. If you exceed the size limit, your job goes out to nevernever land. If you use Tex, or LaTex, for some reason the tops of the characters are slightly chopped off. The larger the point size the more obvious it becomes. This is the only failure I've seen in the emulation. I've used it with Drawperfect (WP Corp) and get wonderful-looking output, but again, just about anything takes forever to print. M.Lee Pikarsky Univ.of Miami School of Medicine lee@neuron.miami.edu
